Join Mossy Creek Outfitters for a guided paddle board excursion designed for paddlers of all experience levels. Whether it's your first time on a board or you're looking to build your confidence, this experience combines instruction, exploration, and relaxation on one of East Tennessee's most beautiful lakes.

Our guides will begin with a brief on-shore lesson covering paddle board setup, proper paddle technique, balance, turning, and safety. Once you're comfortable, we'll launch onto the water and begin a paddle down our local Mossy Creek.

Along the way, you'll learn about the areas natural history, local wildlife, and the unique ecosystem that makes Mossy Creek such a local treasure. We'll share paddling tips, discuss water safety and etiquette, and point out interesting landmarks while giving you plenty of time to simply enjoy being on the water.

This isn't a race—it's an opportunity to learn, experience, and paddle.

In this hands-on introductory class, you'll learn the essential skills needed to confidently plan your first overnight trip into the backcountry.

Our experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of backpacking, including gear selection, backpack fitting and packing, trip planning, campsite selection, food and water preparation, Leave No Trace principles, and backcountry safety. You'll have the opportunity to handle a variety of backpacking equipment, ask questions, and learn practical tips that can help make your adventures more comfortable and enjoyable.

Guided Mossy Creek Tube Trip – 2 Hours

Slow down and experience Mossy Creek the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Our 2-hour guided tube trip offers a relaxing float through the scenic waters of historic Mossy Creek, where you’ll drift beneath bridges, train tunnel, through peaceful wetlands, and experience one of East Tennessee’s most unique waterways.

Your guide will share local history, point out wildlife, and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for paddlers of all skill levels. Keep an eye out for turtles, great blue herons, otters, beaver and other wildlife that call the creek home.

This trip is perfect for families, couples, friends, and anyone looking to unplug and enjoy the outdoors at a unique pace. We provide the tube, personal flotation device (PFD), and local expertise—you just bring sunscreen, water, and a sense of adventure.

Join Mossy Creek Outfitters for a peaceful 2.5-hour guided sunset paddle that showcases Cherokee Lake during one of its most beautiful times of day. As daylight fades, you'll paddle across calm waters while taking in vibrant sunset colors, quiet coves, and the sights and sounds of nature transitioning into evening.

This guided excursion is designed for paddlers of all experience levels. Before launching, our guides will provide a safety briefing and basic paddling instruction to ensure everyone feels comfortable on the water. As twilight settles in, we'll continue our journey into the early evening, experiencing the unique tranquility of paddling after dark under the glow of the moon and stars.

Join David Needs and Mike Beck, Jefferson City Historians, for a 1.5hr self-driving tour to three locations significant to the Battle of Mossy Creek fought on December 29,1863.

Participants will gather at the Heritage Center at Mossy Creek located in Historic Old City Hall, 2004 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, TN.

The Heritage Center opens at 10:00 a.m. and participants should arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. for tour departure at 11:00 a.m.

A suggested donation of $5 per person funds the Heritage Center at Mossy Creek and their efforts to promote our local history in Jefferson County and East Tennessee.

Volunteer Clean-up in Mossy Creek

It’s volunteer cleanup time on Mossy Creek - Friday June 19th from 6pm-7pm.

Where: meet at Mossy Creek Station park between 5:30-6:00.

We’ll be walking a section of creek cutting and removing new growth that’s encroaching on the creek. Be prepared to be in the water with gloves and/or hand tools.

We’ll also remove any trash or debris we come across as usual.
